Kim Phelan

I have been at Tucows for about 4.5 years now, I have managed more products in our portfolio than I can count (Certs, Blogware, HRS, Website Builder, Insight to name a few) and recently started to lead the product management team. We've got a great team here that really love their products and take your success personally :).

My background before Tucows was working with B2B software where I did some time in marketing, competitive intelligence, presales and product management. After all that exposure, I found that my passion comes from building good products that meet our partners needs.

Speaking of building things, my other passion (the one I don't get paid for :) is in building stuff. Some girls do crafts, or shop, I, build stuff. If I am not renovating my house, I am building new stuff out of old stuff like a headboard out of a 100 year old door, or converting old oars into my new handrail. At any given time, I am in the middle of about 3 projects. Got old stuff? Send it my way!

If I am not at work, or in the middle of a project I can be found running, belly dancing, drinking a pint in a pub, or watching local live music. I've got a personal blog at www.kimphelan.com if you want to see pictures of projects, reviews of bands, or general yattering about life and what-not. (As for what-it's-not it's not about Tucows, I'll leave that to this blog.)

If a tree falls in a forest, does anybody hear?

There are two expressions that really hit home for me when it comes to Tucows Insight:

"If you build it, he will come" - Field of Dreams Fame

"If a tree falls in the forest, does anybody hear?" - Bruce Cockburn fame (for me anyway)

The first one isn't so true. We have built lots of things, but people don't always come. And the second, well, if you build something, and you don't tell anyone about it, does it count?
